The Case for Clear Language

The Case for Clear Language

This chart shows the range of prose literacy skills among adult Canadians (International Adult Literacy Survey, 1994).

Look at Level 2. The folks in this group can read, but they’re not strong readers. For them to get a good grasp of the content, the text must be simple and clear. That’s over one quarter of the adult population.

If print material is intended for the general population, it should be written in a Clear Language style.
